Suspect is Arrested After Pursuit Comes to an End with the Help from a TASER Device
The incident arose after narcotic detectives were undertaking an investigation which saw the man in question sell cocaine to an undercover detective. When the 54-year-old refused to stop the police pursuit of the man began.
According to a report, officers chased the man before his car crashed into a telephone pole. Eager to get away from the police he then fled on foot, but was soon apprehended at Wayne Trace and Oxford Street.
In a situation such as this an array of weapons would have been at officers disposal for them to employ during the chase. However, while this was certainly the case, they instead opted for a safe alternative. This meant that instead of inflicting harm on the man by using a firearm, a non-lethal device that produces effective results at subduing an individual was chosen instead.
Simply put, why do officers need to utilize a firearm to apprehend an offender when they can apprehend someone just as efficiently with the assistance from a TASER device?
A criminal may assume that an officer won’t employ a gun whereas if they find themselves up against a stunning device instead they will know that their chances of escaping are slim to none.
