Residents Say City is Not Safe Despite Police and City Council Reassurance
Even though there have been countless attempts to put the minds of residents at ease, there is still a large number who choose not to walk the streets at night by themselves. According to residents, what were once considered safe streets at night have now instead become danger zones.
Residents have been put on edge after a number of attacks took place at the weekend which saw women in their early 20s being targeted. Before the attacks took place, many young people would often walk down the streets by themselves with little regard to their safety. This was due in part because police could be seen.
But with attacks still occurring despite police presence this has caused many to rethink their safety when out at night. Many also say that the reassurance from Wagga’s mayor and police does little to put their minds at rest.
A survey conducted of 20 residents picked at random depicted that at least 75 percent would not walk down the street alone after many were frightened by the weekend attacks.
One way that residents can maintain their safety is for them to consider purchasing pepper spray. This compact spraying device is the ideal tool to have on hand, particularly if you happen to walk down a dark street.
Easy to conceal it gives the user the upper hand when it comes to increasing their protection should they find themselves targeted. Not only that, but it is also safe to use which makes it a popular self defense spray for members of the public to own.
