Police Pod Planned to Tackle Crime Hot Spot
Following a four-week trial, a permanent police center will then be built in the area which will be staffed by officers every Friday and Saturday night.
Over recent years there has been a number of concerns reported from the public about the rise in violence in the area. For the first time, the City of Melbourne and Victoria Police are working together on this project in a bid to tackle to growing problem.
Described as a blind spot in the city’s safety net, Queensbridge has always been a difficult spot to tackle, but there has never been enough space for a bigger police set-up. As a result of this, a mobile police pod is the best way for police to make a presence in what is considered a problematic area.
Many believe that the pod will also be extremely handy when it comes to tackling antisocial and alcohol-related behavior.
The report for the four-week trial will be completed in June.
