A Night for Officers' to Crack Down on Crime
Working with the British Transport Police and local officers, volunteer special constables helped to prevent people from making their way into towns in a bid to commit offences.
Named Operation Eve, the officers set up a metal-detecting arch at two railway stations where they carried out checks to those that passed. The portable detector works in the same way that the ones at airports do.
National Express and BTP were also present at the station in order to tackle any rail-related issues, such as those attempting to dodge their fares.
When it comes to Billericay, it has a busy nightlife which sees officers working in close partnership with licensees to make sure that those visiting the town are able to enjoy themselves without breaking the law.
Even though knife crime isn’t much of a problem in the area, simply employing the metal detector is the ideal way of spotting anyone who may be hiding something. Those who are found to be hiding something will be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
For those that may consider their safety a risk when out they should think about measures in which they can increase their protection. One way of doing this is through the assistance from a self defense device such as pepper spray.
