Violence Increases in Uptown Charlotte

According to reports in Uptown Charlotte the number of car break-ins are down; but try telling that to the residents who live there.

On Friday night, four cars were broken into which saw burglars fleeing with navigation systems and car stereos.

Many residents will explain that the reason they moved to the area was because they considered it a safe place to be. Now, though, there are some expressing their views of moving if things don’t change for the better.

However, it’s not just car break-ins that are an issue. The upscale neighborhood located near the Johnson and Wales campus is experiencing an increase in the amount of violent crime rates.

Earlier this month, a man was the target of a robbery which saw him being shot and killed on his porch. Last week, on the same street, two college students were robbed at gunpoint, while a young woman was targeted a few days earlier.

Many are questioning why there is a sudden rise in the amount of crime in the neighborhood.

But, in order to help prevent yourself from being targeted, taking simple steps such as removing valuable items from sight will help. As one former area resident and Johnson and Wales student put it, out of sight out of mind.

Common sense should also be applied if you are walking out at night. Make sure you stay in a group and try to avoid carrying anything of value; instead of money, take a debit card.

Of course, in order for the residents to maintain their safety regardless of the time they should think about purchasing pepper spray for added protection. Nowadays, this is one device that has become increasingly popular with residents and college students.

Because it is easy to carry around it provides 24 hour protection to an individual concerned about their safety. Not only that, but it’s safe to employ and is extremely effective once aimed and sprayed at a target.

Unfortunately, in this day and age we all need a little protection to prevent us from becoming targets. Having pepper spray on hand will give the necessary confidence to an individual simply because they will have a form of protection on hand should they require its powerful spray for defense against an attack.
