Police Issue Warning About Home Burglaries in Crewe
With the arrival of the warmer weather comes the increase of break-ins as homeowners make it even easier for criminals to enter their homes uninvited.
The head of the Cheshire Police Eastern Area Burglary Unit explained that during this time of the year there are more people who are starting to take pleasure in being outside which means that more things become a lot more relaxed.
As a result, they may leave a window or door unlocked because they may not be far away from what is an unprotected and easy entry point.
What they don’t realize is that someone who may be watching can just as easily walk into their home even if they are just down the garden path.
Because of this, police are urging homeowners to make sure that their doors are locked at all times, regardless of them being inside or not. After all, a third of all home burglaries takes place by burglars who specialize in sneak-ins.
These types of burglars will search for a door that isn’t locked and will do so with great determination. However, homeowners who simply turn a key in a lock will be doing a huge amount when it comes to preventing crime.
Additionally, during the spring and summer months there are many homeowners who simply leave their garden tools outside overnight. These tools will present the ideal device for criminals who need a way to enter a person’s home. The tools they may find will provide the ideal leverage to gaining access through a person’s window or door.
In order to prevent such a crime from happening it is important to put these tools away at night when they are no longer in use.
Furthermore, if homeowners should find themselves confronted by a would-be burglar who has decided to target their home they can simply employ a canister of pepper spray on the suspect which will instantly put a stop to their actions in a matter of seconds, which is all the time it will take to prevent your home from being burglarized.
