Residents Receive Warning of Rise in Home Burglaries
Research has shown that home burglaries have increased by 14 percent and experts at Ageas explain that this trend could see a rise during the summer months as more people start to spend more of their time outside or those who leave their windows open.
Fresh research from Ageas’s National Crime Prevention Initiative illustrates that just one in two adults, or 47 percent, fail to lock their front doors when they are at home which often sees the result of sneak-in burglaries occurring.
While more than one in ten, or 13 percent, only lock their front door before going to bed at night.
Furthermore, Ageas recently revealed figures showing that households across the UK put around £1,233 of their possessions on show, such as antiques and works of art, TVs and other electronic goods which provide a good idea to burglars of what’s on offer for them to steal.
The figures showed that nearly one in five, or 18 percent, had £2,000 or more of the valuables on show to passersby and one in three, or 35 percent, said valuables that had a value of over £1,000 could easily be seen.
Of course, now that the summer months are quickly approaching that doesn’t mean homeowners should be any less vigilant to their surroundings. In fact, this should be a time when they are more so.
Another way is to purchase a TASER device. This self defense tool is one that is extremely popular with homeowners as it gives them the added safety that they require if they should suddenly find themselves confronted by an unwanted intruder.
