College Block Party Shut Down with Police Pepper Spray

What was meant to be a college block party celebrating the soon to be end of the school year at Western Illinois University ended up with police employing pepper spray on hundreds of party-goers.

As a result, many officers were injured while dozens of arrests were made over the incident.

Amateur video on YouTube shows how the party quickly escalated out of control with an estimated 3,000 students in attendance at the college party. One video shows several students tearing down a stop sign and burning it.

Because of the fire, officers were prompted to call in riot police for backup. However, intoxicated students who didn’t want the party to end were captured throwing beer bottles at police. In a bid to deal with these unruly students in the most effective manner officers employed pepper spray on them which resulted in a number of arrests.

With the end of the upcoming school year, it’s only natural for students to express their sense of relief by celebrating at a number of parties; however, when things get out of control it is necessary for order to be sustained.

When police are called to a scene where trouble is brewing it is important for them to assess the situation in the best way possible in order to gain control over a situation before it has the chance to escalate.
