New Crime Squad Set Up to Tackle Spate of Crimes
A few of the offences include two burglaries, two armed robberies and two vehicle thefts.
According to reports the nine-hour crime spree commenced when a vehicle was stolen in West Hobart and when a second vehicle that was stolen was abandoned.
Tasmania Police are saying that the car thief had stolen the vehicles to drive through the night. During the course of the nightly crime activities, two men were seen entering a take-away shop where they were armed with knives demanding money.
The shop owner, her husband and an employee were busy preparing food when around 6 a.m., two men entered the shop casually and demanded money. The shop owner who confronted the two men soon saw them out of her shop where they left with no money.
Shortly after this incident two men were spotted walking into a service station at 6.20 a.m., where they threatened the manager with their knives. At the time of the incident the manager was opening the station when they entered.
For the manager it was the first time he has been confronted by armed robbers at the station in the 3 ½ years he has worked there. Badly shaken by the events which were recorded on a closed circuit security system, the two men managed to get away with a small amount of money.
