Pepper Spray Employed on Mount Pearl Man Who Tries to Disarm Officer

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary the incident took place after they were called to a home disturbance in Mount Pearl.

When police arrived on the scene they were confronted by a man who resisted arrest and decided to take it upon himself to attempt to disarm one of the officers at the scene.

The officer was not injured and as a result of the man’s actions police deemed it necessary to apprehend him with the self defense spray canister many police departments are now providing to its officers for added protection.

These days it’s not uncommon to find officers with an array of personal protection tools on hand for them to employ if they deem it necessary for the protection of those involved. One reason that many police departments are now relying on devices such as pepper spray is because of the safer alternative it presents compared to a firearm.

Furthermore, the employment of the spray canister means that police or members of the public who employ the device for their safety are able to target a larger number of people in a relatively short period of time.
