Family Live in Fear After Burglary

A single mum and her children are now living in fear after a burglar broke into their home in Weymouth, England, while they were sleeping.

The single mum and her sons were in bed when the 28-year-old male burglar gained entry through a back door of the home. Once inside, he stole two mobile phones, money, a laptop, a child’s Doctor Who wallet and a computer game.

The man who was caught has now been jailed; however, despite this the family of five have said that their experience of the burglary has left them unable to sleep at night and traumatised.

Not only that, but the mother believes that the 32-month jail sentence given to the 28-year-old does not correctly reflect the crimes he has undertaken. The man in question was handed this jail sentence after he asked for 13 other home burglaries to be taken into consideration at his trial.

The reason the 28-year-old commenced carrying out the burglaries was down to the fact that his relationship with his children’s mother fell apart, which subsequently saw him taking heroin again.

At the time of the burglary the mother and four of her sons were at home during the incident. A fifth son had initially been staying at a friend’s house, but refused to come home when he was told what had happened because he was too frightened.

Even though he was eventually persuaded to return home, two of his brothers still have trouble getting to sleep.

What brought the situation to their attention was the fact that one of the boys told his mother she must have left the door wide open all night. Thinking nothing of it, it wasn’t until she tried to find her handbag and when she couldn’t find it realized that someone had been in their home overnight.

In order for homeowners to maintain their protection at home they should make sure that they have the necessary safety measures in place that will guard them. For added safety they should also think about purchasing pepper spray which will guard them when they must need it.

While no one wants to experience a burglary in their own home it is unfortunate that these occurrences do happen in this day and age.
