Stun Gun Employed on Pit Bull by Calgary Police
According to police, the incident began when the dog fled its residence through an open door where it attacked a husky-lab that was being walked. The pregnant owner of the pit bull ran after the dog in order to stop the dog attack; however, according to a duty inspector, she had no luck in doing so.
Fortunately, at the time of the attack, a police unit was in the area. Seeing the fight going on, the officer tried to get the pit bull away without any response. In order to prevent any further harm coming to the husky-lab and its owner, the officer then employed his stun gun on the animal.
By doing what is known as a drive stun, the officer was able to break the dog’s focus, which presented enough time for a muzzle to be placed on the dog, thus stopping the chance of another attack.
When it comes to animal attacks it is necessary for a device to be available to police and members of the public that is strong enough that will have the ability to subdue a dog long enough to restrain the dog from attacking again.
In most cases, the employment of a firearm would have been the device called upon to assist in a situation such as this. However, a gun has is more than likely to cause more damage and unnecessary pain to an animal.
Nowadays, with the help from a non-lethal weapon such as a stun gun police are able to protect themselves from harm while also preventing any risk to the animal in question. It’s no longer a case of an animal attack ending with a fatality when the assistance from such a device is now at hand for individuals to employ for their safety.
