Police TASER Device Apprehends Knife-Wielding Woman
According to police, neighbors alerted police after they spotted the woman, believed to be in her 30s, waving a knife near Ontario and Davidson Streets.
When police arrived on scene they saw the woman walk into her dwelling. It was soon after that the police tactical unit were able to employ the self defense device on the woman.
The situation that took place with the knife-wielding woman was similar to events that took place earlier in the week when four police officers responded to a call that saw a man using a knife to cut open trash bags. As a result, police employed guns which saw two fatalities: one a mentally ill house resident and a passerby who was on his way to work.
When police drew their lethal firearms to apprehend the man with the knife the passerby was caught in the crossfire where he was taken down by a ricocheting bullet. As a result of the fatalities, questions were raised over whether or not a TASER device could have been used in the confrontation and prevented the two unnecessary deaths.
However, when asked why a self defense device was employed in the second incident and not the first, police explain that the tactical unit was nearby on patrol at the time. Unfortunately, tactical police who are trained in employing TASER units, don’t typically work between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. The first incident took place around 6.30 a.m.
Of course, when it comes to the employment of self defense tools it is clear to see that these devices have great advantages with their use. For one, not only are the easy and safe to use, but they are also non-lethal as well.
Unlike guns which come with the risk of fatal harm, a TASER device doesn’t. This is why their use has become extremely popular in many police departments and with many members of the public as a way of increasing a person’s safety.
It’s not every day that such a device is available, but since the creation of self defense weapons there has been a drastic decline in the amount of injuries made against police and the suspects. Instead of police taking time off to recover from injuries sustained while on duty, they can now spend more time tackling crime on the streets in the knowledge that they have an array of personal protective devices at hand to assist them should they require it.
