Burglaries on the Rise in Hazel Park

Police in Hazel Park are asking residents to remain alert to any strangers they see in their neighborhood after a number of business and home burglaries were reported in the area.

The Hazel Park police lieutenant explained the importance of neighbors looking out for each other. If they should see people in their neighborhood that don’t usually belong that is when it helps to be suspicious of their actions and to note what is going on.

A total of 19 burglaries, since April 7, have already been reported in Hazel Park. Recently police arrested suspects they believe were in connection to five of those reported burglaries.

In most cases a burglar will usually knock on a door first to see if anyone is home before they force their way into the home, either through a window or door. Once inside they will typically go for jewelry and electronic items.

In one incident a burglar managed to break into a home through a rear window during the day where electronics and jewelry were stolen.

Business burglaries are also increasing. Two restaurants had an undisclosed amount of money stolen as well. At one of the businesses, an alarm alerted police to the scene where they found a smashed window as the entry way for the burglar.

Police believe that the same people involved in the business burglaries were also the same people involved in the home burglaries as well.

In order for homeowners and business owners to maintain their protection should they find themselves confronted by an unwanted threat, they should think about buying professional stun guns.
