Watchful Neighbors Help to Stop Home Burglary

It’s always good to have watchful neighbors when it comes to helping to prevent a home burglary. That was certainly the case during a burglary that took place at 11.45 p.m., when watchful neighbors helped to prevent a burglary after they saw two men leaving a neighbors home with various items.

Some of the items carried out included a popcorn machine, televisions, computer equipment and a stereo. After seeing what they were doing they called police and by 3 a.m. the following morning, both suspects aged 20, were in police custody.

Police explained that this was the type of neighborly assistance that would aid at discouraging and preventing home burglaries from occurring. Not only that, but the chances of recovering the stolen items greatly increased when neighbors made use of their ears and eyes to spot any activity they believed to be suspicious and reported it to the police.

In this situation, a group of residents stopped the two 20-year-old males as they were in the process of carrying a television to one of the suspect’s home. As this was going on, another resident notified police.

After officers arrived on the scene they arrested one of the men, but a helicopter search failed to find the second man. Surprisingly, the second suspect turned up at the scene of the crime in the early hours of the following morning. Neighbors then notified police a second time where he was found and subsequently arrested.

Police found that the two men made their way into the resident’s home who was on holiday by taking the screen from an unlocked window. As a result, they were able to remove a number of items and may have got away had it not been for the watchful eyes of the local residents.

Because of the quick action demonstrated, all the items stolen were returned.
