Learning About Protection and Empowerment through Self Defense Classes
When it comes to Yakima businesswomen there are times when they have found themselves walking alone at night and feeling vulnerable. Tired of feeling this way they decided that they needed to make sure their safety was in their own hands regardless of where they are.
The self defense classes, which are held at the Yakima Police Athletic League building sees a number of women in attendance. However, while the pupils have many capabilities the skills they have to execute them are limited, hence the reason why they attend the classes.
Of course, what every instructor will tell you is that the first line of defense begins with a loud voice which will hopefully scare off an attacker. Presenting yourself with an authoritative voice will make you stronger and may give your attacker pause for thought.
If that fails, then women are taught how to employ their body parts in order to protect themselves. For instance, making use of your knees, heels and elbows are important areas to think about as they are all strong parts.
During the classes the women also learn how to effectively remove themselves from someone who is touching them in an inappropriate way. They are also taught how to kick in the right manner, moves that are all designed to save their lives.
Many of the women spoken to explained that they didn’t realize that they had the strength to do the skills taught to them. Knowing what you are capable of though is just another boost to a person’s confidence. Now that they know what they can do, they know that should they be required to defend themselves they can do so.
