Home Burglaries Increase at Alarming Rate for Bozeman
Last week a resident noticed that someone had robbed him after he noticed that his garage was in a mess with a number of small items missing. At first it was believed that beer cans were all that was taken; however, after a closer inspection it soon became evident that an iPod and a leatherman were a few of the items stolen.
Of course, in order to remain undetected the thief only stole petty items; leaving behind possessions that had a much higher value, such as a kayak, skis and power tools.
Bozeman police explained that petty home burglaries have been taking place at an alarming rate in June. So far they have had twenty break-ins or attempted break-ins in the past three weeks. When you think about it that amounts to one burglary a night.
However, while the thieves don’t seem to be targeting homes that are specific to their needs, the homes that were targeted could quite as easily have prevented the burglaries from taking place.
In most cases, people who originally come from a small town have to realize that the small town they may have once known may not be so small in this day and age. As a result, it’s no longer a case of simply leaving your doors and windows open without fear of someone simply walking in and helping themselves to your possessions.
In order to tackle the rise in home burglaries police have increased their patrols with officers out on foot, in cars and on bikes looking and probing for any signs of trouble or suspicion.
Unfortunately, there is only so much that police can actually do to prevent these crimes from happening. Residents also need to do their part as well. There are several ways they can do this. One is to remain vigilant over who is in your community. People that you don’t recognize or people acting in a suspicious manner should be watched, and reported to the police if you believe they may be acting unlawfully.
Not only that, but residents can take measures to ensure that they don’t become a target. Purchasing a TASER voltage device will instantly increase a homeowner’s protection as well as prevent any would-be burglar, who does gain entry into your home, from stealing from you.
All it takes are simple steps, but these steps can make all the difference from being burglarized and stopping such a situation from happening.
