Dog Owners May Soon See Signs Up Warning of Dog Attacks

Dog owners in Wokingham, England may soon see signs telling them what to do if their dog is attacked. The signs will be posted in Wokingham country park after a second attack occurred at the popular walking area in less than two months.

The dog warden from the borough explained that there has been a rise in the number of dogs attacking other dogs. As a result, dog owners are being urged to be responsible when it comes to the safety of their pets.

A one-and-a-half-year-old Labradoodle was attacked by a pair of dogs, thought to be Rhodesian ridgebacks, after they pinned the dog to the ground and bit him.

This latest incident marks the second attack in the park since its opening earlier this year in March. In April, two dogs attacked a two-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier. A woman opened a gate which saw two dogs shoot towards the Staffordshire bull terrier.

While the dog thought they were running towards him for a game, it soon became apparent that that wasn’t the case within seconds. The dog was pinned down, but managed to escape and shot off across the park with the two dogs and both the owners behind.

The owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier then phoned police, while the lady of the two dogs managed to get one of the dogs on a lead, explaining that they were rescue dogs. After retrieving the dog, he was taken to the vet for a full check-up.

The owner explained that the two dogs who attacked her dog were more than likely the same pair who were involved in the second dog attack in April.

The dog warden said that dog attacks are on the rise in the borough; however, she explained that all the parks were seeing this rise, not just Wokingham country park. She blamed the rise on dog attacks down to the fact that owners are not socializing their dogs, which is an important part of their puppy lives.

In order to help dog owners out if their pet is attacked by another dog, the countryside service are considering the option of putting signs up around the park, which will help dog owners know what to do if they are involved in an attack.

While owners may want to get their dog away from the aggressive dog they don’t usually think about asking for the people name’s involved, but this information can provided extremely important.

Another way dog owners can maintain their dog’s safety and their own is with the assistance from a self defense spray canister known as dog pepper spray.
