Police Employ Stun Gun on Knife-Wielding Suspect

Police in Winnipeg were called to respond to a bizarre incident, which saw them employing a stun gun on a 51-year-old knife-wielding man.

According to reports, the suspect was carrying a knife as he made his way into a resident’s yard. The resident who ran from the man quickly flagged down police as they made their way past at 4 a.m.

A police spokesman said that alcohol could be a factor, which resulted in the suspect’s actions. At the time the police cruiser was going past officers were transporting two passengers who were in the back seat.

With a lot of things happening at once, it was unclear why the knife-wielding man became angry with the victim on William Avenue. Walking into the resident’s yard, he then threatened him with the knife. As the guy ran off fearing for his safety, he flagged down police as it was going by.

Both officers then got out of the cruiser and gave chase as the suspect ran from the first house. The entire situation lasted for around two minutes, but ended successfully after the involvement of the police stun gun was called into play.

While it’s unclear why the man acted the way he did, it’s important to note that with the assistance from a police stun gun officers were able to bring the situation under control in a short space of time.

Given that they also had two passengers in the back of their police cruiser it was necessary for them to apprehend the knife-wielding man without leaving them unattended for too long. This may not have been possible if police didn’t have access to non-lethal devices.

With more police departments now relying on self defense tools in order to safely and effectively bring suspects into police custody it’s no wonder that they have become a popular form of protection that many people are turning their attention to.

When it involves a hostile individual that is holding a lethal weapon with the intention to harm, knowing that you have a unit on hand that will prevent any brute force being required, but still achieves the best results by apprehending a person, will deliver the confidence required.
