Man Accused of Striking Nurse with Scale is Apprehended by Pepper Spray
According to Marion County Sheriff’s reports, he ordered frog legs and left without paying the bill.
When the man was approached by a deputy, he is accused of refusing to pay for them because they were cold, even though he had already eaten three and left two on the plate. The report went on to explain that the man became aggressive towards the deputy.
As a result, he was arrested and charged. After he was taken to the county jail the suspect was being looked at by a nurse and is reported to have refused to sign a medical release form. When he was asked to leave the nurse’s office, he is alleged to have picked up a medical scale before throwing it at the nurse.
In order to prevent the scale from hitting her, she used her hands to block the scale. Corrections officers then employed the self defense spray canister on the man to restrain him.
These days, it’s not uncommon for police to have an array of self defense devices on hand. Over the years, police departments have begun to realize the benefits of providing such tools to their police force. It’s no longer a question of employing brute force when an officer wants to bring a suspect into police custody.
Nowadays, they can achieve the same results without having to come into contact with an individual. This means that instead of risking their safety, which may see them taking time off work to recover from injuries sustained, they can spend more time on the streets tackling crime instead.
As they are safe to use, they don’t carry the same risk factors that traditional firearms do. Instead the employment of pepper spray will only temporarily subdue the person targeted, which gives police enough time to safely bring their suspect into police custody without further issues arising out of the situation.
As the canister is small, you can carry it wherever you are, which means you’ll be protected no matter what.
