Police Issue Warning Over Significant Increase in Burglaries

Police in Burlington County neighborhoods are investigating a number of home burglaries that have taken place in the last two months. As a result of these burglaries, police are asking residents to remain extra vigilant about who is coming and going from their communities and to keep their windows and doors locked.

Police in Pemberton, Medford, Lumberton and Evesham Township have seen a rise in the number of burglaries, which started in May.

In most cases, the burglaries typically took place in the day when homeowners were either at work, or when the homeowners were away on holiday.

Police reported that even though the burglaries saw a forced entry through doors or windows, most of the burglaries that took place occurred with the assistance from unlocked windows.

In order to raise residents awareness to the events, Medford police sent an email alert out warning residents about seven burglaries that took place over the past two months.

The burglaries that have been reported have seen jewelry stolen in one property, while electronics were missed. However, in other break-ins, the opposite was true, leading police to believe that the rise in break-ins is not being undertaken by one group or person.

Lumberton police have experienced around two burglaries during the day and one attempted home burglary in the past month. Since May 27, Evesham police have reported around 20 home burglaries during the day.

Even though police have made two arrests, they are not relaxing as they can’t be sure that the two arrested are also responsible for the other burglaries. To further confirm this, while the two men have been sitting in jail, other burglaries have taken place.
