Additional Metro Police Patrols to Combat Home Burglaries

The Metro Police Department in Nashville, Tennessee has said that it will transfer officers so that they can tackle home burglaries that currently being reported in the area.

Beginning on Monday, the police department will move six officers from different divisions where they will be relocated to the East and South areas.

Currently, home burglaries are what drives the city’s crime rates. As a result, home burglaries are up by 17% in the East while the South has a 29% increase in break-ins.

According to commanders they consider the hot spot area for crime to take place is East Nashville. There they have seen a rise in assaults, in addition to home and vehicle break-ins. In the past week, four home burglaries were reported, which saw doors kicked in and air conditioning units taken from properties.

After the new plan comes into force, it is expected that around six to ten extra police will be found in certain areas that have been targeted by home burglaries. Police will be on the alert in these areas to catch the criminals in the act.

Not only that, but the availability of extra police means that more contact will be seen between the public and the police. This will provide the perfect opportunity for police to get out of their cars and to talk to the people who, in most cases, have a lot of information on hand to deliver.

By introducing extra police, it is hoped that they will prevent any such activity from occurring that sees homeowners possessions stolen. If, however, something does happen, then there will be enough officers on hand to respond to the scene.

It is hoped that the extra police in the targeted areas will make them safer neighborhoods for all those involved.

The additional officers who will be relocated to the East and South areas will be there for four weeks.
