16 Home Burglaries in Past Week Could Have been Avoided in North East Lincolnshire

According to data, almost half of all home burglaries committed across North East Lincolnshire, England, over the past few weeks have seen criminals simply enter households through unlocked windows and doors.

What seems to be driving numbers up is the high temperatures, which is providing the perfect opportunities for thieves to walk in from the streets. Not only that, but homeowners are also likely to leave their windows open overnight or throughout the day when their homes may be unattended in an effort to keep their homes cool.

In over half of the 27 burglaries that took place in North East Lincolnshire, between June 27 and July 10, criminals were able to gain access through windows and doors that had been left open.

A Humberside Police spokesman said of these 16 incidents, four saw burglars enter through unlocked windows while 12 were through doors unlocked.

In order to prevent more house burglaries from being reported, police are giving advice to homeowners on what they can do in order to prevent themselves from becoming a victim. What police are telling homeowners is that criminals will take the time to find a home that is left insecure.

If an opportunity presents itself to a thief they are going to take advantage of that by entering a house through an insecure window or door. Once inside they won’t waste any time stealing valuable items that are nearby before making a quick getaway.

What police are finding is that items that are dropped close by the door are those that are stolen first, such as mobile phones, wallets and handbags. Because of this, it’s important that residents play a vital role in taking the necessary measures to prevent such a crime from happening, by simply locking up their homes.
