Grizzly Bear Mauls Camping Teenagers in Alaska
According to a NOLS spokesman, a group of seven students and three instructors had been waiting for a hired helicopter about six miles away. One 17-year-old from New City, N.Y., and a 17-year-old from Denver were the two students who were the worst bear bite injuries.
Teenagers told troopers that they initially spotted the bear about 8.30 p.m. as they were crossing a river single file. Those who were in front loudly told the others at the back about the approaching bear. As a result of the two teenagers being at the front, they received the worst of the attack.
Even though grizzly bears, which are a subspecies of the North American brown bear, are powerful, top of the food chain predators, their diet mainly consists of berries, fruit, nuts, roots and leaves.
Despite their size, bears have the ability to run 30 miles an hour, a colossal speed when a human suddenly finds themselves confronted with a bear.
Of course, when it comes to bears there are protective measures that can be taken to ensure that you don’t become a victim of a bear attack. Simply by having a powerful animal repellent on hand will mean that you can effectively stop any wild animal from attacking you.
These days, it’s not uncommon to have a form of defense in the form of a spray canister, particularly if you are travelling within an area that is known to house dangerous animals. Animal repellents are a safe protective measure that will instantly work after one spray.
Not only that, but by having something powerful on hand to tackle a powerful animal will give the user the confidence to know that their safety won’t be in harms way. In order to get the most out of your spray canister, it is important to have it close by at all times for instant action, and not simply forgotten at the bottom of your bag.
After all, you won’t know when you’ll require it the most.
