Woman Sets Up Women’s Safety Foundation

A young woman from Newton, Mass., found herself face-to-face with something she didn’t expect while on vacation in Aruba.

The 18-year-old woman was assaulted by a man she had never met before in a ladies’ restroom, while on the Caribbean island.

Even though she was badly bruised during the attack, she was able to fight back, which saw her successfully escaping from her attack. Her ability to fight and escape was all thanks to the training she received in a self defense class that her mother had taken her to. While she went, she never thought that she would have to employ them for her safety.

Since then the 18-year-old has set up a foundation, the Lily Konowitz Foundation for Women’s Safety. The aim of the foundation is to raise money so that equipment can be paid for rape aggression defense programs.

She eventually wants to also see the programs in public schools.
