Police Employ TASER Gun on 18-Year-Old Wielding Knives
Police were called to attend a scene in Londonderry which involved an 18-year-old male standing in the middle of the road. Police reported that the man in question was holding three kitchen knives and swinging his arms in an hostile manner.
Police went on to report that he tried to stop cars and at one stage sliced himself with one of the knives on his chest.
When police were called to the scene they quickly assessed the situation, which would enable them to cut the risk to the public and to the suspect. Police asked the man to stand still so that he presented less of a threat to those around him, however, when he started to walk toward police while still holding the knives, they deemed it necessary to take action.
As a result, a TASER gun was employed on the man.
At an interview, he admitted that the knives had come from his house, but that he had no intention of harming anyone other than himself.
In this day and age it is necessary for police to have a wide range of self defense tools on hand for them to utilize if necessary while on duty. Unlike traditional firearms, a stunning device doesn’t pose a risk to the individual targeted.
Instead, the powerful stun produced is enough to knock someone off their feet, which is essentially what you want in tense situations that demand quick positive results. Of course, while a TASER gun might apprehend a person in a short space of time, it does so in a non-lethal manner.
This way those that are involved in a dangerous situation will know that when a self defense device have been employed it won’t harm those involved. It is important for officers to have a device they are confident employing for public and police safety. A firearm does not give a person the confidence that they need to know that they won’t harm a suspect, but the countless self defense tools available to police do.
