Employee at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is Attacked by Bear

The man, in his 50s, was walking his dog in Engineer’s Bluff, which is described as a heavily forested area. When the man was confronted by the bear the bear ran him out, however he fell to the ground. During this incident the bear took a swipe at the man as he ran past where he received injuries to his arm and leg.

A search was conducted in the cordoned area by the Department of Fish and Wildlife, however, it was not known if the bear had been caught or not.

Due to the large wooded area it is not uncommon to spot bears on base property.
