Police Pepper Spray Employed to Stop Standoff in Perry
According to police reports, Perry Police were initially called to the scene at 10.30 p.m. Friday where they learnt that the man in question had been in an argument with his family members.
They were told that the man said to his family that he didn’t know whether he should shoot himself or them. When the first opportunity arose, the family left safely.
As he was armed with a gun, officers surrounded the house and called the Ohio State Patrol Special Response Team for assistance. After negotiations with the man failed, police sprayed the self defense canister into the home.
Once the man exited the house he was then taken into police custody. As a result of his actions the man was charged with inducing panic, aggravated menacing, and misdemeanor counts of domestic violence.
Nowadays, with violent crime on the rise in many parts of the country, it is necessary for police to have access to a range of self defense tools in order to protect themselves and members of the public from harm.
Years ago, the use of brute force and firearms were the main weapon choices when it came to tackling suspects who were disturbing the peace. But these types of force are not always required in situations.
Because they pose a deadly risk to peoples’ lives it was necessary for a device to be designed with safety in mind. The only way this could be done was through a weapon that had the power to subdue someone long enough, but that didn’t harm them in the process.
One of the self defense devices that they came up with was pepper spray. Easy to use and carry it provides the perfect non-lethal weapon that can take down an individual without the worry of harming them in the process.
This is one device that many police departments are turning their attention to as they deliver the means of safety required, but have the ability to produce the effective results required in situations that are deemed dangerous.
