Police Employ TASER Gun to Apprehend Suspect
According to police reports, the Ashton Park resident had kicked in his neighbors door around 7 p.m. However, at the time of the incident he didn’t have a weapon on him. The suspect who had been drinking then returned to his own apartment where he refused to open his front door or answer the phone when they called. As a result, they were forced to break down his door to gain entry.
Police used less lethal forms of weapons in order to gain entry and apprehend the man, which saw them employing the use of a TASER gun. Once the man was apprehended he was then taken away into police custody.
According to residents the man in question who had a knife was a quiet, but problematic individual. Now, however, they feel safe in the knowledge that the man in question has been taken away by police.
This event followed another event, which involved a 71-year-old male who had stabbed his neighbor in a rooming house with the aid of scissors. Before stabbing the neighbor, the 71-year-old asked the victim to come to his room and sit down before stabbing him.
The 46-year-old victim was able to flee before the suspect could stab him again. Luckily, the injuries were not life-threatening and he was later released from hospital. Police say that the area of Sudbury is already heavily policed and is the main access point from downtown.
With regards to the first incident because police had the assistance from a non-lethal self defense device they were able to effectively bring about the results they wanted to ensure that they and the suspect remained safe.
If another form of defense had been employed, such as a firearm, it could have produced a life-threatening situation, which would have resulted in either the officers or the suspect himself being taken to hospital.
Of course, with the help from a TASER gun, the man was only checked over, as a normal procedure, before taking him straight to the police station.
