TASER Devices to be Issued to Dartmouth Police Next Month
Patrolling officers will start to carry TASER devices on their holsters next month. The police department have purchased 12 of the stunning tools, however, as if yet it’s not determined whether that is too few or too many.
Once the devices will have been issued and on the streets with the officers they will be evaluated as to whether more or less is required. Of course, some of the officers’ on the department’s three shifts will have access to the tools, but not every officer will have one.
The tools themselves will be employed when suspects have demonstrated assaulting behavior to the officers and others, and when other methods have been tried. The use of the TASER tools is the ideal alternative to deadly force, and when no other device other than a firearm is available.
In order to distinguish the self defense devices from those of a firearm, the tools will be yellow by design, so that a firearm is not drawn by mistake. Officers are being trained in order to act rapidly so that restraining individuals is done quickly.
The start date for the TASER tools will be September 1.
With the assistance from these tools it means officers will have greater protection on hand should they require it while on duty. As more police departments across the United States turn to the devices for additional safety it clearly shows how effective they are and how police have come to rely on them when other means of defense are not possible.
With the availability of such tools it means that police are able to do their jobs effectively and safely knowing that they have a device on hand designed for maximum protection in mind. Officers are there to protect the lives of others and themselves, which means it’s important that they have a tool on hand that will enable them to do their job well.
Without such a device brute force would still be employed if negotiating with an individual didn’t work. This path often involves high risks of injury to the officer and individual in question. But, the employment from a TASER device eliminates this, which means that police can spend more time on the streets tackling crime instead of taking time off to recover from their injuries.
