Dog Attack Questions Safety of Pit Bull

There are many lovers of the pit bull terrier in the Halifax area who are saying that the breed is being singled out unfairly after recent attacks were reported in the area.

On Monday, a pit bull that was unleashed attacked a woman, which saw her with cuts and bruises to the ear and face.

According to animal services, there have been 96 reported dog attacks, 17 of which involved an injury to another animal or person. After Monday’s attack, there are many who think that pit bulls should be banned, however, others state that such a ban would not work.

The owner of a dog daycare in Halifax explained that it’s all done to how you train and handle a dog. Simply banning breeds can be a slippery course to take. In Italy, they initially started by banning one breed of dog, which eventually rose to 91 different breeds being banned. They soon realized that the banning of dogs was doing nothing to safeguard the community.

One way of making sure that dog owners take responsibility for their animals is to include more enforcement and steeper fines.

Of course, for those that are concerned about dog attacks they should think about the safety measures they can put into place that will maintain their safety wherever they are.
