Bear Education Trailer Highlights Differences in Bears and How to Stay Safe

A new U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service trailer created to educate people in the difference between grizzly bears and black bears has recently toured the US. For future travels, the trailer will be stored in Wenatchee.The 17-foot trailer which is covered in descriptions and pictures, will draw a large crowd wherever it goes. Next month during the Wenatchee River Salmon Festival on October 1-2, the trailer will make a showing.

Once the trailer has been set up, the display will include body mounts of a black bear and a grizzly bear so that people can see the differences between the two up close and personal. Grizzly bears are generally between 350 to 400 pounds and can sometimes be the same size as a black bear.

In order to tell the difference between the two, a good indication is by the bear’s face and the size of its claws. The displays will also feature important information on how a person should respond to a black and grizzly bear encounter, in addition to reducing the chances of an encounter and how to employ animal repellents if such an encounter is experienced.
