Crime Clampdown a Major Success in Parts of Britain

A major police operation that has been undertaken to stop the yearly rise in home burglaries and robberies has seen crimes drop by over 70 percent in the last year.

Operation Pinnacle was launched in Swindon at the start of the summer in order to tackle the rise in street robberies during the months of June and July, as well as a number of home burglaries in the month of June.

The operation was based on crime trends and intelligence analysis that have been reported over the last three years, which predict that these types of crimes take place during these months. According to the police, since the operation started there has been a huge success with violent crime in one of the hot spots dramatically falling.

The operation saw crime prevention advice, a community safety bus, leaflet letter drops, and an education campaign in hot spots working alongside the Swindon Community Safety Partnership.

Since the operation, robberies in the town center have reduced by 72 percent compared to the same period last year, while they were down by 66 percent in the north of the town and 50 percent in the east sector.

The predicted rise in home burglaries was at the same level compared to 2010, with 62 homes being broken into. Even though the police force urged homeowners to remain alert to thieves in the area, around half of the burglaries were the result of unlocked windows or doors.

While the operation in Swindon has been a success for the police department and for members of the public that doesn’t mean they should be any less complacent when it comes to their own safety.
