‘Gardeners' Ransack Home

Two men who posed as gardeners for a garden service dressed in overalls and carrying a ladder, garden tools and a lawnmower managed to gain entry after pressing the intercom buzzer when the unsuspecting domestic worker let them in. The domestic worker believed they were the expected landscapers.

After they were in the began sweeping the front of the property. When the electrician and domestic worker continued with their chores, unconcerned with the two ‘gardeners’, the two men struck.

The incident, which took place on Thursday, is one of three that have occurred in the past month where thieves have held up people at homes. On Friday, robbers entered a home when a visitor walked through the gate.

A family was held for 30 minutes while the thieves stole an undisclosed amount of money, the VW the guest was driving and a flat-screen TV.

Three weeks previously, a family was held up for three hours before the robbers left with a flat-screen TV, valuables, money and the family’s Porsche Cayenne.

The two ‘gardeners’ involved in the most recent incident, however, were armed. One of them had a silver pistol, while the second had a black revolver. Once they struck they took the electrician and domestic worker to a guest bedroom and tied them up with ropes. They then began to ransack the home.

When the owner returned not even that interrupted the two, but did see them running back to the car. When the owner saw the two men he asked them where the landscaping company was, to which they mumbled about him being at the front.

During this time the domestic worker had managed to free herself and when she heard her employer she ran to the door to warn her boss about the robbery. However, when she arrived at the door, the two men were also there behind the owner with a gun to his head. They then took the owner and domestic worker back into the guest room, tied them up and continued to ransack the home. It took them 30 minutes to take what they wanted, which included a case of champagne, a cinema speaker, a flat-screen TV, a hi-fi system, and a Tag Heuer watch.

This incident could have been avoided if a simple precaution had been taken to determine who the men were and what company they belonged to. Checking a person’s ID doesn’t take long and in doing so you can rest assured that the people you are letting in are the people they say they are.
