Bronx Mom Arrested After Daughter Uses Pepper Spray on Bullies

A mother and daughter from the South Bronx area have been arrested after being involved in a lunchroom fight at Pablo Neruda Academy High School after pepper spray was used.

According to police the 38-year-old mother gave her 17-year-old daughter a canister of the self defense spray in order to guard herself against her bullies. The mom explained that the females jumped her daughter and beat her up so badly that an ambulance crew had to be called.

She went on to say that she would supply her daughter with the spray canister again.

The 17-year-old daughter, who is four months pregnant, explained that she had no choice but to spray the two female students with the pepper spray after they targeted her in the lunch room. Both of the girls were treated.

The fight broke out minutes before the teenagers were set to have a mediation meeting with the schools administrators.

As a result of the incident, police charged both the mother and daughter with criminal possession of a weapon. The 17-year-old is also complaining that during the arrest the officers were incredibly rough with her, considering her pregnancy, claiming that they slammed her down on the floor, had her face down on her stomach and sat on top of her.

An NYPD source has denied this use of force.

When it comes to bullying there are too many statistics that show not enough is being done to tackle the problems that many students go through at school. Because of this, it is natural for parents to want to put measures into place so that their children can protect themselves when the parents are not there to help.

It is perfectly understandable to see why the parent in this situation deemed it necessary to provide her daughter with pepper spray. Not only is it effective when employed, but it is safe to use as well. It targets a large number of people at once and stops the person using it becoming a target of an attack.

It is important for people who require additional protection to know that they can use it without having to worrying about the repercussions in doing so. The use of pepper spray shouldn’t come with any repercussions as it is a safe and non-lethal self defense tool that many people have come to rely upon.
