Campaigners Join Together to Stop Isla Vista Burglaries
However, the population density is not the sole reason for the burglaries. According to the I.V. Foot Patrol, they believe that out-of-towners and locals work the area because it provides for easy stealing that is lucrative.
Recent figures show that it is very easy to target homes in I.V. Members of the Foot Patrol have regarded the number of burglaries a problem in I.V. since 2010. As a result, data was collected where it found that of the 290 homes burglaries in 2010, 191 took place at residences that had unlocked windows and doors. The amount of stolen goods amounted to just under $460,000.
Due to the amount of burglaries, the campaign, ‘Stop Burglaries in IV: Lock Doors and Windows’ started. After coming up with the program, the Foot Patrol met with the university Associated Students who agreed to fund the printing of 82,000 stickers. Officially, the campaign kicked off March 17.
It is hoped that when residents see the sticker they are more likely to think about locking their windows and doors even if they are only popping out for a minute.
After all, when it comes to thieves who like to wait for the perfect opportunity to target a home, it doesn’t take a thief long to get in, take what they want and leave again.
Of course, for homeowners who want to maintain their protection inside their home should they be confronted with an unwanted intruder they should think about reading up on the available stun gun reviews.
By doing so they will be better informed as to the different types available. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon to find homeowners with a form of self defense inside their home in the form of this device. Not only is it safe to employ, but it is also easy to use. This then allows the user to focus on apprehending their target instead of worrying about how to use it when they require it the most.
