Axeman Apprehended by TASER is Jailed for Six Months
The 28-year-old man pleaded guilty at the crown court in Leamington to assault by affray and beating and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. When police arrived on the scene they employed a TASER gun in order to subdue the man and prevent any harm coming to those involved.
The incident took place in the early hours of the morning on March 5 this year, when three friends had left the Wyandotte pub in Kenilworth. They then crossed the Royal British Legion car park before ending up on Park Road.
During the journey home two of them began to argue loudly while their friend filmed them on his mobile phone. After hearing the commotion the 28-year-old male came out of his home and shouted at them.
With an aggressive attitude and annoyed at the man who was recording, he is alleged to have run down the steps and, as the man was putting his phone away, punched him on the back of the head.
The suspect is then alleged to have gone back into his home, but instead of staying there, he re-emerged waving an axe held above his head. Demonstrating a threatening behavior, the suspect then shouted at the three men telling them he would cut them up.
At the moment, two people who were passing by attempted to restrain him as a woman called the police.
The man then went back inside his home when police arrived; however, they found him in the kitchen. This is when police employed the self defense device on him before taking him away into police custody.
When questioned he claimed that he had gone outside to deal with the noise, but because the group had acted violently towards him, he went back inside to protect himself with an axe. At the time of the incident the 28-year-old axeman is reported to have been drunk and has since referred himself to an alcohol awareness course.
