Barking Family Dog Scares off Burglars

A woman has been arrested after passing bad checks that were stolen during a home burglary at a Deerfield Beach home where the homeowners were asleep.

Two thieves managed to slip into a home via the back patio door as the homeowners slept in their bed before dawn Wednesday. Luckily, a family dog who barked at the burglars managed to scare the two off before they could finish their work.

The pair involved were able to paint over a surveillance camera that was monitoring the patio entrance. Once they had dealt with that they then entered the home where they were able to steal a purse, a diamond ring, car keys and a briefcase.

The barking dog woke the homeowners which saw the culprits fleeing.

In other home burglary reports, thieves were reported to have stolen a BMW from a condo and a laptop. In July, a PlayStation and Hyundai Santa Fe were taken from a Deerfield home. In August, thieves were able to leave with two cameras, a laptop, a television and a Toyota Rav 4 from another Deerfield Beach residence. In these instances the vehicles stolen were recovered.

Police were able to establish a break in the case when a 19-year-old female attempted to cash checks stolen from the latest robbery. As a result, she was arrested on two counts of uttering a forged check. Police also believe that she is connected with the group of burglars, although she was not charged for those thefts.
