Police Employ Stun Gun on Man after Standoff in New York

A domestic dispute and standoff came to an end in upstate New York after police employed a stun gun on a man who shot a state trooper in the face with a BB gun.

According to police, they were called to a home in Cortland after receiving reports of a fight at around 6 p.m. on Sunday. When they arrived at the location they found an 18-year-old inside the home who was refusing to come out, holding a knife to his throat.

When the male fired two BBs which hit the trooper, officers rushed the house. As a  result of the man’s actions, police employed the self defense device subduing the man and preventing him from harming those around him further.

Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for police to have a form of self defense on them, particularly in the form stun guns. It’s no longer necessary for them to employ brute force or traditional firearms as these heighten the risk of harm to both the officer and the individual they are trying to arrest.

In situations where the person in question is harming themselves or someone else, it is important for police to have access to a device that will produce the results they require in a matter of seconds.

The only tools that will achieve this without the risk of harm are non-lethal devices that have been designed with safety in mind for the user and the person targeted. Without access to these weapons, police would have to rely upon negotiation which does not always produce the necessary results.
