Is Gold the Link to Burglaries?

The high price of gold could be what is behind the increase in the number of home burglaries that has plagued Pueblo recently.

Since July, there have been 240 home burglaries where intruders have forced their way in. Police in Pueblo suspect that the thieves are targeting homes during the day and taking jewelry among other items.

However, the price of gold could be the driving force for the number of break-ins.

In August, gold was reported to have hit a record high at $1,891 an ounce. While the price has since slumped, it has been reported by The Associated Press that gold rose back up to $1,683 an ounce. According to the AP, the demand and value of gold is high because of efforts to raise economies in Europe and the United States.

The Pueblo Police Department said that with the value of gold increasing, the number of burglaries has risen dramatically.

Of course, whether jewelry is the contributing factor behind the number of break-ins or not, there are measures that homeowners should put into place to ensure that their home is not targeted.
