Dog Attack Scars Boy of Five for Life
Blackpool magistrates heard how a Staffordshire bull terrier type of dog attacked the little boy as he was trying to stroke the dog.
The dog’s jaws clamped on to the boy’s face tearing away a flap of skin and leaving bite marks around the boy’s eye. The court also heard how surgeons were required to complete four hours of work on the five-year-old’s face in order to repair the damage.
However, he will have nerve damage and scarring for the rest of his life.
The 26-year-old dog owner admitted to being in charge of the animal which was out of control when he appeared in court. At the time of the incident, on August 2, there were two dogs on leads being taken out for a walk.
Two boys, one of which was the five-year-old in question, had been playing near their homes and went to talk to the dog owner. During this time the young boy tried to stroke one of the animals at which point the dog turned on him and sunk its teeth into his face.
The dog owner attempted to stop the dog by using the lead as a whip, but the lead broke and the dog ran off. According to the reports the dog was a well behaved family pet and had not done this before.
Even though the dog in question may not have had a record of attacking children in the past, that shouldn’t stop people from thinking about how they can better protect themselves against such attacks in the first place.
No one can know when a dog is going to attack, but it is always a good idea to take precautions to avoid such a situation. One way that people are doing this is through the assistance of dog pepper spray.
Nowadays, there are more people turning their attention to this self defense device because of its proven results at deterring an aggressive animal. Not only that, but because it doesn’t harm the animal targeted it is safe to use. This means that those who are concerned about safety issues can rest assured that what they are using is safe and non-lethal.
