Police Employ Stun Gun on Man With Hacksaw

Portland Police found themselves up against an aggressive man in downtown Portland on Monday.

Police received a report that a 52-year-old man was trying to cut the doors of Silver Dollar Pizza at 4.56 p.m. Employees inside the restaurant said that the man who was holding a hacksaw was asked to leave. Instead, he simply yelled at other customers refusing to go anywhere.

A cook then came out of the kitchen in order to remove the man from the establishment, but on his way out he turned violent. By the time the man was at the door he was in a hyped up state of mind and as a result slapped the cook with the blade twice and once across the arm. Luckily, the blade did not do any damage as it was upside down.

The suspect then attempted to cut through the front door of the restaurant before turning his attention to the cars approaching in the street.

According to police, they found the man located at Southwest 6th Avenue and Oak Street where they challenged him to drop the hacksaw. When he refused they then employed the police stun gun on him.

In this situation, the use of stun guns can make all the difference between life and death, which was certainly the case here. For police finding themselves up against a hostile individual with the intent to harm those around him, it was vital that they had a self defense device on hand that they could employ at a moment’s notice.

Without the use of this device police would probably find themselves resorting to brute force, which would no doubt involve the use of a firearm. In order to make sure that those in the area are not harmed as a result of a stray bullet, another form of defense was required.

These days, it’s not uncommon for police to have an array of self defense tools on them, as each situation that they find themselves in requires different means of action. When it comes to maximizing the safety of all those involved it is important to have a range of devices on hand that made it easy to achieve this.

No one should have to feel threatened, but if they are simply knowing that there are tools available to assist in dangerous situations means that individuals can remain confident that they will always remain protected.
