Victim of Dog Attack Recounts Incident
The 44-year-old victim explained that she had initially been out for a walk in Boyd Big Tree Conservation Area in Middle Paxton Township when she was confronted by a bulldog type of dog who came up to her wagging its tail.
Assuming that the dog was friendly she allowed the dog to lick her fingers while talking to it. However, the dog then bit down on her left arm and then her right. In a panicked state of mind she then called out to her mother who was a mile away. Her mother managed to locate a state police trooper.
Once on the scene, the trooper then tried to employ a stick to distract the dog, but that didn’t work. Subsequently, the dog then bit the victim’s mother before turning on the trooper.
In order to bring the situation under control the victim then told the officer to shoot the dog. He did so with two shots. Even though the 44-year-old lady is a dog groomer and a self-described dog lover, she felt that she didn’t have any choice.
Doctors agree that it was the right choice as the victim sustained serious bites all over her body as well as losing a lot of blood. She may also require additional surgery to repair the damage done to the tendons on her arms.
In this situation the use of dog pepper spray may have proved advantageous to the victim in stopping the dog from attacking her. While the dog appeared friendly to begin with, for some reason the dog decided to turn on the lady, her mother and the state trooper.
No one wants to be faced with an aggressive dog while out walking, but simply knowing that you have a self defense device nearby will mean that you can protect yourself when you need it the most.
Simply having a unit on hand will give the user the confidence to know that they have something to reply upon that is non-lethal. Not only that, but the dog targeted won’t be harmed, but it will effectively deter the dog from continuing on with its attack, which is what you want.
