Home Burglaries Continue to Rise in South Glens Falls and Moreau
Police believe that the same burglar who is responsible for over a dozen home burglaries in the area of South Glens Falls and Moreau has struck again in the past week.
Last week, homes were broken into by a person who climbed through a window and went through a door to steal jewelry and cash.
According to police, the thefts were the work of the same suspect who has targeted dozens of homes in Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, South Glens Falls, Glen Falls, Queensbury and Moreau over the last few years. The burglaries have primarily been targeted during the colder months.
Since 2008, the South Glens Falls Police have 21 open burglaries which are believed to be linked to the thief. Police believe that the thief opens a window which is then left open so that he can hear if someone is entering the property while he is inside.
Among the burglaries is one in February 2008 where around $100,000 in cash was taken from a safe. However, none of the jewelry stolen from the properties has been found, nor have any of the neighbors spotted anything suspicious in the area.
As a result of these crimes, police are urging residents to remain vigilant and to report anything they believe is suspicious.
In order for homeowners to maintain their safety they should think about increasing their safety measures which will ensure that they don’t become a target of thieves. There are several ways in which homeowners can achieve this, namely through the installation of a home security alarm system which will instantly deter potential thieves, and through the use of mace spray.
Nowadays, this self defense spray is becoming a popular device for homeowners to employ as it is easy and safe to use. The person that this device is targeted on won’t be harmed, which means that the user is more likely to employ it for their protection when they need it the most.
In this day and age, it is imperative that homeowners think about what measures they have in place to guard them, and if need be, the ways in which they can increase these measures or change them.
No one should have to worry about their safety while they are at home, but there may be a time when you find yourself confronted by a thief that demands instant action to gain control of a situation.
