Major Increase in Home Burglaries in Alice Springs

According to an NT Police annual report home burglaries are continuing to plague Alice Springs, regardless of the fact that police are trying to eliminate the problem in the area.

Over the past financial year there has been an increase of 63 per cent in home break-ins, from 436 to 715.

However, the Southern Region acting commander explained that the spike in the crime figures was from a bad patch between October last year and January. While this may be the case the head of the community group Action for Alice has said that the town’s residents are feeling helpless because of the property crime.

In order for homeowners to better protect themselves from burglars they should think of the safety measures that they can put into place. One way of doing this is by installing a good security alarm system, which will deter thieves and will instantly alert police, homeowners and residents when a burglary is taking place.

Another way that homeowners are turning their attention to is through the use of a TASER gun. These days there are more people taking advantage of the benefits that this self defense device can provide because it is safe and non-lethal to employ.

No homeowner should have to worry about their safety when they are at home and now they won’t have to when they have put the necessary steps into place that will better protect them when they need it the most.
