Home Burglaries Now Almost a Daily Occurrence
According to city officials, the trend appears to be the result of a troubling rise in prescription drug abuse. However, while burglaries are taking place in Augusta, the chief of the criminal division of the Office of the Maine Attorney General explained that the city was not alone.
The office explained that the rise was down to drug abusers needing money for their drug abuse and would go to any lengths to get what they wanted. Although the police chief in Augusta thinks that it could be down to the touch economy.
So far in 2011, Augusta Police have responded to 605 thefts, 248 home and business burglaries and 399 vehicle burglaries. In particular, home and vehicle burglaries have increased with 2010 seeing 212 vehicle burglaries reported.
As a result of the crime figures, police are urging residents to remain alert and to make sure that they have put the necessary precautionary measures in place to prevent thieves from breaking in. One way of achieving this is by making sure that windows and doors are always locked.
Another measure to have is a good security alarm system, which will deter thieves from targeting a home. For homeowners that are concerned about their safety inside the home they should think about buying pepper spray.
This self defense spray canister has become the ideal alternative for a homeowner’s safety as it is safe to use. Not only that, but even though it may be a small canister of spray, it can still pack a punch on the person targeted once deployed.
With the holidays only two days away it is important for homeowners to make sure that they don’t become an easy target. No homeowner wants to find a thief inside their home, but if they do confront them, they can rest assured that what they have on hand will guard them when they need it the most.
The use of the spray canister will simply prevent the thief from continuing on with their actions, giving the homeowner enough time to call for police to take the guilty suspect away into custody.
