Middlesex County to Purchase TASER Guns for Police Department

Middlesex County officers will be provided with police TASER guns after funds amounting to $72,500 became available for the purchase of up to 29 devices. According to a press release there will be one for each municipal police department and law enforcement agency in Middlesex County.

Each department, however, must have its officers trained in the use of the self defense device in order to have the device. In addition to training by the manufacturer, TASER International, police will also be required to undergo training that is approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission.

Once police have received their training they will have another device on hand that is capable of protecting them when they require it the most. The last thing an officer wants to do is to utilize brute force on a suspect. Not all situations require this type of force, which is why it’s important for police to know that they have an alternative on hand that will defend them safely when they want it.

The use of a police TASER gun means that officers are able to rely upon a powerful tool that has been designed with delivering maximum safety at a moment’s notice. Since the introduction of these tools into police departments results have shown that they reduce the amount of injuries to both an officer and a suspect.

This is compared to the use of a firearm, which has the potential to harm those involved. Simply knowing that police have a device on hand that won’t harm them means that they can rest assured and focus on the situation at hand instead of the repercussions that other devices would involve.

Training for the Middlesex County officers has yet to be finalized, but is expected to be undertaken in the New Year. Once police have successfully completed their training, which also includes experiencing the shock from a TASER device, they will then be permitted to use the device while on duty.

As more police departments turn their attention to these tools for added safety it shows how effective they are at defending members of the public and the police themselves when confronted with a dangerous situation.
