Boy's Call to Police Stops Home Burglary

A 13-year-old boy who was home alone Tuesday afternoon phoned police to alert them to an attempted burglary on his home.

The boy was at home around 12:30 p.m when he heard two men and a woman knock on the door. The boy who didn’t recognize them didn’t answer the door.

At this point, however, the three of them entered the home, prompting the 13-year-old to call the police. He saw the two men walking in the backyard and didn’t know what they were doing. As a result he stayed hidden in his room.

When police arrived on the scene, the suspects got into a car and drove away, leading to a chase. This soon ended after the car was involved in a collision with another car. A 23-year-old male was apprehended by police and booked on suspicion of burglary, felony hit and run and felony evading.

Two other suspects remain at large.

According to police, this form of home burglary is known as ‘knock-knock bandits’ where suspects knock on homeowners’ doors to see if they are in before breaking in when they receive no answer. Unfortunately, this form of burglary is becoming more frequent.
