Police Employ TASER on Two Men After New Years Bar Brawl

Lincoln police employed a TASER device on two men early Sunday after a New Years bar brawl was reported downtown.

Police at the scene were controlling the crowd leaving the bars at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning when several fights broke out.

As police were trying to break the fights up a 26-year-old male jumped on the back of one of the officers and started to choke him. As a result of his actions, a police self defense device was employed on the suspect.

Shortly after this a 25-year-old male ran up and grabbed the police who were trying to control the 26-year-old suspect. The two men continued to fight with police until police were successful at restraining them, bringing them into police custody. The police stunning device was also used on the second suspect.

While it may not be the best start to the new year, police know that by doing their jobs they will come across violent individuals intent on making other people’s night a misery. However, with the help from the self defense device they were able to effectively bring the situation under control in a timely manner, thus preventing any harm coming to those involved.

These days police departments are turning their attention to the use of these tools simply because of the results they can achieve in a short space of time. Without them, police would still have to rely on brute force or a firearm, which runs the risk of harming the police and the suspects targeted.

By knowing that officers have an array of non-lethal devices on hand means that they can rest assured that what they are using is safe and won’t harm those targeted. It also means that the need for contact between an officer and a suspect is reduced, which increases the safety of everyone concerned.

No one should have to worry about their safety while they are out and now they don’t have to with the help from a TASER device. With more police departments turning their attention to them, they are providing positive results by showing that the harm to an officer and a suspect is greatly reduced compared to if a firearm or brute force was used instead.

It’s not everyday that such a device becomes available, but simply knowing it is means that people can rest assured that their safety is guaranteed.
