Unusual Hibernating Spots for Bears
According to reports, neighbors driving past saw the 300-pound hibernating bear and stopped to take a look from a safe distance. Using a camera they zoomed up close and realized to their surprise that the bear’s eyes were open and shining in the dark.
Officials say that even though bears are hibernating, they are not fully asleep and can just as easily be woken up. However, a wildlife biologist explains that black bears are typically submissive and it’s very rare for them to attack anyone.
The Missouri Department of Conservation has said that since the 1960s the bear population in the state has been on the rise.
Of course, while this situation didn’t produce anything that saw the bear coming out of its hibernation, that’s not to say other situations will be the same. No one likes to be woken up when they least expect it, so it’s not surprising to find bears attacking when woken from their long sleep.
But, there is one way to maintain your protection if you should find yourself confronted by a cranky bear: bear spray. This self defense spray canister has become the ideal defence device for many people and is seeing many more turning their attention towards it for their safety.
Completely safe to use the spray will only subdue the bear long enough to stop them from attacking. Not only that, but because it is non-lethal it won’t harm the bear, unlike the use of a traditional firearm.
Maintaining your safety is important, but it is just as important to remember that the bear is only acting in an aggressive manner because it feels threatened. In order to reduce the threat threshold the use of bear spray will achieve the results required: stopping the bear from attacking and your safety.
It’s not everyday that such a device becomes available, but seeing as there is it’s not surprising that more people are relying upon it when they need it the most, which is essentially what you want.
